The article is divided into three sections: (1) a review of mental health consultation, which offers existing, professional indirect services; (2) the development of a parallel definition of information consultation, with a discussion of the range of information consultation activities; and (3) a consideration of which agencies in the community might best provide information consultation services (public libraries and private agencies) and a review of how this would change their role in the community.
