- The Status of Status: The Status of Librarians in Texas Academic Libraries. Hawkins, Jo Anne And Others Academic Libraries Fringe Benefits Governance Librarians Library Surveys Professional Recognition Questionnaires Staff Development Standards Status Surveys Tables (Data) This report presents the findings of a survey that sought to relate the status of Texas academic librarians to national standards. Consisting of 70 questions in seven categories--identification of library staff, general (status), appointment, promotion and tenure, professional development, governance, and benefits--the survey was based, in part, on the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) "Standards for College and University Librarians" (1971). Questionnaires were sent to all 144 academic libraries in Texas, including two- and four-year, private and public colleges and universities. The report compares the survey data from the 135 responding libraries to each ACRL standard, describes additional findings, and makes recommendations. Appended are the questions of the survey, with a breakdown of the responses by type of institution; where appropriate, the percentage of responses within each category column is given. Included is a reprint of the ACRL standards. (JD)
