  • Librarian Manual for the Parent/Child Toy-Lending Library. Nimnicht, Glen P. And Others Childrens Games Guides Librarians Library Extension Library Services Parent Education Parent Role Parent Workshops Preschool Children Preschool Education Toys Intended for librarians, this manual provides a framework for operating a toy library and a training course which will teach parents how to use toys and games that help preschool children learn important skills and ideas, and which in turn will assist parents in understanding some basic things about how a child learns to think. Toys used in the course are sound cans, color lotto, feely bag, stacking squares, wooden table blocks, number puzzle, bead-o-graph, and flannel board and shapes, all of which have been developed by the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development in California. A set of scripts corresponding to a set of eight filmstrips and cassette tapes is presented, along with guidelines for using filmstrip equipment, a list of available 16mm sound films, and addresses of service film libraries. The librarian is also provided with a plan detailing possible activities for each of eight class sessions, and with a set of sample course evaluation forms. For the librarian who wishes to establish and operate a toy lending library, an outline of duties, library location considerations, supplies, and cataloging procedures are suggested. (FM)
