Academic Libraries Bibliographies Books Guides Information Retrieval Library Acquisition Library Networks Online Systems Search Strategies A training and reference tool for searchers in the Preorder Section of Cornell's Olin Library Acquisitions Department, this manual establishes the rationale for searching operations and includes illustrations as well as detailed explanations of searching procedures and problems. The information given applies only to the searching of monographs, and does not cover problems which are unique to Cornell's Latin America, Southeast Asia, or Slavic programs. Major sections include general information about Cornell's library system, and provide specific guidelines pertaining to Library of Congress depository cards, order forms, request cards and flyers, multi-volume sets theses, replacements, series, bibliographies, book-in-hand searching, and editing order forms for keypunch. The procedures discussed reflect the fact that Cornell has its own in-house automated acquisitions system as well as the use of OCLC terminals. A glossary of terms frequently used in the department is provided. (FM)
