Recommendations of the UGC Standing Committee on the Development of Colleges during the plan period and on the implementation of several new programs as part of the Faculty Improvement Programs are also included. An outline is provided on the plan programs and guidelines for development of centralized facilities including: workshops, university service, and instrumentation centers; regional instrumentation centers; science education centers; computer facilities; and regional library centers. The scheme of national associateship is also outlined. The Commission has revised the pattern of assistance for various schemes like improvement of existing hostel facilities, improvement or establishment of study centers, development of play fields and purchase of accessories and sports, construction of gymnasia, extension or construction of canteens, including furniture or equipment in the universities and colleges.
