Academic Libraries Decision Making Library Acquisition Library Collections Policy Formation Public Libraries Three conference papers on the formulation of collection development policies are presented in this report: (1) Richard W. Blood, Assistant Professor and Social Sciences Bibliographer, General Libraries, University of Houston, discusses both the theoretical considerations behind an academic library's decision to write such a policy and the attributes of a good collection development document; (2) Gerald Bishop, Head Librarian, Bibliography Department, General Libraries, University of Texas at Austin, reports on the experience of writing such a policy for a large academic library, and the value of that policy in the on-going process of collection management; and (3) Michael J. Benedict, Co-Ordinator of Materials Selection, Houston Public Library, shares his experience of creating the collection development statements of a large public library. (Author)
