  • Report to the Wisconsin Veterans Home (King, Wisconsin). Study of Residents' Reading and Media Interests as a Basis for the Developing Program of Library Service. Monroe, Margaret E. And Others Community Study Feasibility Studies Information Needs Institutional Libraries Library Services Needs Assessment Reading Habits Surveys Veterans This study: (1) identifies the library-related needs and interests of the residents of the Wisconsin Veterans Home (WVH), (2) searches for clues on activating a program of library service, and (3) explores the feasibility of establishing the WVH as a community library for King, Wisconsin. The needs assessment recounts procedures and presents the findings of oral interviews with residents, a survey of staff by questionnaire, and a spot-check of library users. Information on the reading interests of the residents is presented to assist in the planning of a more active library program. Questions on the feasibility of establishing the WVH library as a community library are confined to the staff, 81 percent of whom thought it was a good idea while 19 percent thought it was not. The study indicates the need for a follow-up inquiry on the information needs of residents and the relating of the findings to an assessment of the library's holdings. Further exploration of facts and issues related to expanding the WVH library for community use is recommended. Appendices include specific data gathered during the study. (FM)
