Generally, each reporting agency provides a brief description of programs, information on authorizing legislation, appropriations and any recent program modifications as well as names of any programs that have been authorized, but not funded. A number of agencies that do not have specific legislated mandates for serving children have prepared summaries of the ways in which their general programs affect children. Reporting agencies are: Agency for International Development; Action; Appalachian Regional Commission; Community Service Administration; Consumer Product Safety Commission; Consumer Affairs; Federal Trade Commission; Government Printing Office; International Communication Agency; Library of Congress; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Endowment for the Arts; National Endowment for the Humanities; National Science Foundation; Smithsonian Institution; Verterans Administration; and the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Health, Education and Welfare. It should be noted that this report does not intend to provide complete information on all government programs or projects, or on all government agencies that have programs which affect children.
