contents Guidelines for Curriculum Development in Information Studies. Saunders, W. L. Curriculum Development Guidelines Higher Education Information Science Information Scientists Librarians Library Education Library Personnel Library Schools Library Science Professional Education Training These guidelines for the development of curriculum for documentalists, information specialists, information scientists, and librarians stress the need for all parties to the information process, in whatever capacity or country, to receive a common training that will enable them to understand one another and to collaborate on equal terms to the progress of information transfer. The first three sections consider the many factors, both general and special, which must be taken into account before the matters of curriculum and content are addressed. The next two sections, which focus on curriculum policies and objectives and program levels, strongly emphasize that there can be no such thing as a definitive detailed curriculum and the guidelines are not intended to provide a"ready-made" curriculum for a particular institution. The final sections on curriculum content and course components are intended to provide a blueprint which can be translated into a curriculum appropriate to the distinctive needs of particular situations. While highly specific scope notes have been avoided, the guidelines indicate the range and scope for information studies and translate this into terms of subjects of study. (RAA)
