A Course of Study in English Language Arts for Grade One. Cognitive Processes Concept Formation Curriculum Guides Developmental Programs English Curriculum Grade 1 Language Arts Primary Education Resource Materials Sequential Approach Teaching Methods This second in a series of seven related teaching guides that together outline a public school district's English language arts curriculum for kindergarten through grade six focuses on a course of study for grade one. The guide explains the district's overall philosophy and teaching goals and the philosophy behind the development of a curriculum that emphasizes the importance of language arts as a process that should be interwoven with every curriculum area. Also presented are a curriculum diagram, a scope and sequence chart, a summary of first grade aims, and resources for the first grade teacher. The major part of the guide presents additional resources, activities, and teaching techniques that emphasize concepts such as perception, listening, speaking, and writing.
