Cognitive Processes Concept Formation Curriculum Guides Developmental Programs Diagnostic Tests English Curriculum Grade 3 Language Arts Primary Education Resource Materials Sequential Approach Teaching Methods This fourth in a series of seven related teaching guides that together outline a public school district's English language arts curriculum for kindergarten through grade six focuses on a course of study for grade three. The guide explains the district's overall philosophy and teaching goals and the philosophy behind the development of a curriculum that emphasizes the importance of language arts as a process that should be interwoven with every curriculum area. Also presented are a curriculum diagram, a scope and sequence chart, and resources for the third grade teacher. The major part of the guide presents additional resources, activities, and teaching techniques that emphasize such concepts as perception, listening, and the structures and mechanical conventions of language. Extensive appendixes offer other resources, including a library program guide, suggestions for oral and written reports, a list of recommended films, spelling lists, and samples of diagnostic tests.
