Student volunteers pose the questions by unobtrusive methods to reference staff at three college libraries. The results, while precluding generalization because of small sample size, indicate there is a 50 percent chance of receiving a satisfactory reply. Factors affecting the results include the education and training of the librarians, and, to a lesser extent, the collection content. The study recommends extension of the study and further investigation of relevant factors. A bibliography of 47 references is included. (Author/RAA) |
