Editorials Information Services Library Services News Reporting Newspapers Special Libraries Tables (Data) Use Studies User Satisfaction (Information) This report presents the findings of a survey conducted by the editorial library of the Los Angeles Times to measure usage and satisfaction with library service, provide background information on library user characteristics, collect information on patterns of use of the Times' clipping files, relate data on usage and satisfaction parameters to user characteristics, observe possible trends in library usage, and to collect data on possible new library directions. Of the 533 questionnaires distributed among members of the editorial department, 276 were returned. Results indicated that respondents used the clip files most heavily to verify facts and to determine if a story had been covered by the Times. Evaluation of library services was positive in these areas, but respondents were most dissatisfied with the completeness of the clip files. The library's ability to meet respondents' time requirements was indicated as satisfactory, and it was found that a majority of respondents use the computer search service.
