  • Impacts of the Promotion of Online Services in Academic Libraries. Antony, Arthur Graziano, Eugene Academic Libraries Advertising Bibliographies Higher Education Information Retrieval Library Services Library Surveys Merchandising Online Systems Reference Services Research Libraries This report describes a survey conducted by the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in which a questionnaire was sent to 101 research libraries in order to determine what their policies and practices were with respect to the promotion of user-access to online computerized bibliographic database services. Sixty usable responses were received, and almost all of the responding libraries were providing computer information services to users as a relatively conventional adjunct to normal reference services. The survey addressed two aspects of promotion: perceptions regarding the relative effectiveness of promotional techniques, and perceptions regarding the impacts of promotion on library operations. In addition to copies of the survey questions and a sample promotional brochure, this report provides a list of 14 references. (FM)
