- A User Study of the Metropolitan Toronto Library Board Municipal Reference Library. Hinchley, Mirren Library Materials Library Services Library Surveys Participant Characteristics Public Libraries Questionnaires Reference Services Tables (Data) Use Studies User Satisfaction (Information) Data from 164 questionnaires completed by users of Toronto's Municipal Reference Library over a 2-day period in April 1980 were used to construct a profile of user characteristics. The questionnaire addressed such factors as the user's reason for coming to the library, the types of materials consulted, staff assistance, user knowledge of the library's collection, and awareness of the library's telephone reference service. The user's occupation and place of residence were also considered. It was found that 60 percent of the respondents used the library for assignments for job-related research, 35 percent were students, and 75 percent were at least partially successful in finding materials they needed. The report contains tables that display the data and discusses factors affecting the accuracy of the data. Appendices provide a copy of the questionnaire and a listing of the responses received, and three references are cited. (FM)
