Conroy, Barbara Educational Planning Educational Resources Librarians Library Associations Library Education Library Personnel Media Specialists Needs Assessment Professional Continuing Education Staff Development Statewide Planning The statewide plan for the continuing education of Florida library and media personnel described in this document is intended to increase the ability of those personnel to provide timely, accurate information and efficient library service to Florida citizens. The goals of the plan and its proposed activities are outlined, including the linking of individuals seeking continuing education with existing learning resources and the provision of continuing education opportunities for all levels of library personnel. A two-phase structure for the implementation of the plan is discussed, and the roles and responsibilities of the individuals, institutions, employers, library and media associations, graduate library schools, and other agencies and organizations involved in the plan are delineated. Also provided are outlines of several strategies for the implementation of the plan; a set of reactions to the plan from the library community, including comments by representatives of community colleges, library associations, institutional libraries, graduate library schools, public libraries, and the State Library of Florida; and appendices detailing the current context of continuing education in Florida and the 11 major activity areas involved in plan implementation.
