Mathews, Eleanor College Libraries Higher Education Library Facilities Library Materials Library Personnel Library Services Library Surveys Questionnaires Tables (Data) User Satisfaction (Information) A general evaluation survey of the academic community was conducted during the fall quarter of 1979 to determine whether the present services, facilities, and resources of the Iowa State University Library meet the needs of its users. Questionnaires were sent to a random sample of faculty, administrative staff, graduate students, and undergraduates. These users were asked how often they come to the library and their principal reasons for coming. Questions concerning the use of materials and experiences with locating them, use of card and serials catalogs and elements on the card catalog, and computerized literature searching were included. The users were also asked about their satisfaction with the collection, the hours of operation, and their impressions of service at the public access points in the main building and reading rooms. Results of the survey indicate that graduate students use the library in essentially the same way, while use by undergraduates is different. The users' perceptions also pointed to areas where improvements in service need to be made. The survey instruments and summaries of the data are included. (Author/RAA)
