contents Report of the Task Force on Reorganization. Paley Library. Academic Libraries Administrative Organization Data Analysis Data Collection History Library Planning Needs Assessment Organizational Change Program Development Self Evaluation (Groups) A self-examination of the Central Library System (CLS) at Temple University was undertaken by a task force made up of staff members to examine the current organizational structure in the light of technological, financial, curricular, enrollment, and library service considerations, as well as such organizational concerns as work flow, appropriate staffing, and reporting relationships. Each library department was asked for a description of its operations, including an organizational chart, and a master organization chart for CLS was prepared based on these data. Additional information on the background of the CLS was assembled by the task force, and the structure of four libraries at universities comparable to Temple was examined. Data on the individual departments were analyzed in terms of strengths and weaknesses and interviews were held with each department along with library administrators to discuss the findings. In the design phase, emphasis was placed on two main problems: one relating to the organization of functions, and the other to the structure of library administration. Design options were discussed with cooperating consultants, and three alternative organization plans were developed which comprise the major part of this report. (RBF)
