- A Current Listing of American Indian Newspapers and Periodicals in the United States and Canada. Philbrick, Douglas R., Comp. And Others American Indian Culture American Indian Education American Indian Literature American Indian Studies American Indians Annual Reports Bulletins Folk Culture Laws Newspapers Periodicals The 476-item bibliography is an attempt to provide hands-on identification of, and information on the availability of current American Indian newspapers and periodicals. Compiled from listings submitted by the Center for the Study of Man, Smithsonian Institute and the Princeton University library, each publication was contacted and, as of June 1980, was in existence and determined to be functioning information sources for their respective American Indian constituents. The bibliography lists items published in all parts of the U.S. and Canada. Each listing includes an address, subscription cost, if any, available dates, and number of times per year it is published. The bibliography contains everything from tribal newsletters to college/university publications to commercial journals, as well as publications of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and other governmental agencies, professional societies, religious organizations, Indian societies/organizations, the Smithsonian Institute, prisons, and museums. Content ranges from articles on Indian culture and religion to cartoons and glossy color pictures. There are calendars, tales, poems, announcements, annual reports, conference proceedings, historical journals, recipes, and bibliographies. The publications cover Indian affairs/news, law, language, arts and crafts, folklore, personalities, research, educational developments, and artifacts. (LC)
