Adventure Education Check Lists Elementary Education Environmental Education Experiential Learning Guidelines Outdoor Activities Outdoor Education Parent Participation Planning Program Evaluation Resident Camp Programs Student Costs Student Teacher Relationship Worksheets The handbook contains information for teachers, students, and parents which should assist in making Jefferson County Public Schools' resident environmental education program a beneficial experience for all concerned. Descriptions of the various camping facilities near Lexington are presented to aid in camp selection. A check list is given for the teacher as well as suggested menus, money raising ideas, scheduling the day, and ideas for activities (taking a closer look on a hike, activities for base camp, high adventure activities, and rainy days). Guidelines are suggested for handling the excitement of lights out; preparing for and following up the resident experience; and evaluating the experience by parents, students, and teachers. A list of environmental education organizations and a bibliography are included. Sample forms are provided for parents concerning field trip permission and release, kinds of clothing recommended, medical information, interest solicitation, and general trip information. Worksheets for students include mini-forest study, leaf study, history found in a cemetary, animal classification, a scavenger hunt, bird watching, pond discovery, and games and puzzles. Parent and student post-camp questionnaires, answer keys, and information on library material selection and adoption procedures conclude the document. (BRR)
