Young, Norma Jean Instructional Materials Mild Disabilities Mild Mental Retardation Parent Education Preschool Education Program Descriptions Television The paper describes "Parents and Teachers--Partners in Learning Project," a program to assist parents of mildly retarded handicapped preschoolers to acquire skills needed to reinforce learning. The program involves a series of television tapes designed to develop awareness and a parent training library which includes such items as books, pamphlets, puzzles, records, and story books. Descriptions of each of the six tape programs cover: title, writers, narrator, length of tape, overview, activities/concepts demonstrated, and related parent training materials. Tapes cover such topics as language development, holiday activities, and motor skill development. An outline on establishing the parent library covers the library's purpose; location; and procedures for acquiring, paying for, and grouping the materials. A chart offers a summary of library materials with a code for format (parent information or parent teaching), publisher/vendor information, and code for applicable television tape program. (SW)
