Annotated Bibliographies Check Lists Cultural Pluralism Curriculum Development Elementary Secondary Education Learning Resources Centers Library Collections Library Services Media Specialists Multicultural Education Nondiscriminatory Education School Districts School Libraries Sex Fairness State Standards Intended as an aid for Iowa school library media specialists, this pamphlet identifies resources and provides guidelines for the development of multicultural, nonsexist (MC-NS) school library media programs. Definitions of terms used in the pamphlet are given. The rationale and philosophy underlying elementary and secondary curricula design are discussed with reference to library media programs, and the legal authority for bias-free nondiscriminatory education is cited from sections of the Iowa Code and Iowa School Standards. Five goals and suggested objectives that should be integrated into a multicultural, nonsexist library media program are presented, as well as a checklist for school administrators which suggests questions for use as evaluation guidelines in the areas of library media program structure, the content and strategies of library media skills programs, library media collections, and library media center curriculum support strategies. An annotated bibliography of 32 books, 3 articles, 5 catalogs, and 5 periodicals is included, as well as a list of 10 organizations which can provide information for school districts striving to implement multicultural, nonsexist library media programs.
