Biology College Science Course Objectives Curriculum Design Ecology Evaluation Methods Higher Education Laboratory Safety Science Curriculum Science Education Science Equipment Science Instruction Secondary Education Secondary School Science Teaching Methods Provided in this book is a critical review of modern biology curricula and teaching methods with particular reference to the advance of knowledge and changes in society. The book consists of an introduction (discussing biology as a subject, attitudes to learning, and values in biology teaching), 12 chapters, and 4 appendices. Teaching/learning methods are discussed in chapter 1. Chapters 2-5 focus on topics related to secondary school biology. Topics address various aspects of curriculum/instruction for the early years (ages 11-13), middle years (ages 14-16), and for the sixth form level of study, including curriculum design, course aims and objectives, teaching methods, and resources/equipment. College level biology, ecological studies, quantitative aspects of biology, education for personal relationships, assessment and evaluation methods, laboratory design and safety, and relationships between biology and the technological society are the areas addressed in chapters 6-12 respectively. Appendices include lists of apparatus and equipment for biology teaching needed in the middle years, an experiment for a sixth form biology laboratory, outline of a first-year university ecology course based on simulation, and a list of books useful for a biology preparation room library.
