contents Report on the Library Survey of the Faculty. Peters, Andrew College Faculty College Libraries Higher Education Library Collections Library Instruction Library Personnel Library Research Library Services Questionnaires Research Needs Statistical Surveys Student Needs Teacher Attitudes Use Studies User Satisfaction (Information) A survey of the teaching faculty at Central State University (CSU) in Edmond, Oklahoma, was conducted in February 1981 in order to determine faculty attitudes toward present and possible future services of the CSU library and to determine classroom assignment patterns which impact on the library. Specific factors surveyed included attitudes toward library staff, collections, and services; faculty need for books and periodicals; classroom and research needs; library use patterns; class requirements for library services; library assignments; attitudes toward library instruction; and preferences for possible future library services. The library staff were rated as performing well. Library collections were found to be more suited to students' classroom needs than faculty research needs. Journals and reference books were rated as receiving the most use for personal or teaching purposes. Upper division courses were reported to have twice as many library assignments as lower division courses. Only 15% of the faculty stated that their classes came to the library for orientation sessions, but 94% said students should be involved in library instruction. These and other survey results are briefly analyzed in the report. Also provided are recommendations for action on specific issues and a detailed listing of the results for each question included in the survey instrument. (Author/ESR)
