contents Toward a Federal Library and Information Services Network: A Proposal. A Report of the Intergovernmental Library Cooperation Project. Trezza, Alphonse F. Agency Cooperation Federal Government Government Libraries Library Cooperation Library Networks Library Role Library Services Library Surveys Program Proposals Questionnaires The current interaction among federal libraries and information centers was examined and assessed to determine ways to improve the coordination of resources and services among federal libraries and to increase cooperation between federal and non-federal libraries in order to meet national, state, and local information needs. The more than 400 federal libraries of various types in three federal regions--Midwest, Southeast, and Arizona, California, Nevada, and the Pacific--were studied through meetings and questionnaires, and visits were made to the directors of library and information service programs of Washington, D.C. area federal agencies. Results support the development and establishment of a full-service, multitype federal library network, based on existing resources and services, to improve accessibility to federal library resources, and to contribute toward greater library operations efficiency. The proposed plan of action presented in this report indicates goals, purposes, objectives, and tasks, and provides suggestions for implementation. Appendices include the survey questionnaire and specific responses, a list of federal libraries in the regions surveyed and Washington, D.C. area agencies visited, and selected resolutions from the White House Conference on Library and Information Services (1979) and from the Federal Libraries and Information Services Pre-White House Conference (1979).
