Ambach, to the New York State Legislature on the Library Pilot Projects Organized under Chapter 787, Laws of 1978, Covering July 1, 1981-June 30, 1982, with Background Information on July 1, 1979-June 30, 1981. Ambach, Gordon M. Formative Evaluation Interlibrary Loans Library Cooperation Library Networks Pilot Projects Program Descriptions Regional Cooperation School Libraries Shared Services Statewide Planning Tables (Data) Union Catalogs This report describes actions and results from the third year (1981/82) of a library resource sharing program authorized by Chapter 787 of New York State's Laws of 1978. It is noted that the program, which was intended to enable resource sharing between reference, research, academic, public, special, and both public and private school libraries, funded the formation of 14 pilot projects, including 12 school library systems in selected areas throughout the state, and 2 regional library networks--INTERSHARE (located in and near New York City) and the Rochester Area Resource Exchange (RARE). The report covers the growth of union catalogs and lists, cooperative bibliographic control, interlibrary loan activity, the provision of effective delivery systems, continuing education and training activities, public information activities, cooperative acquisitions, and the growth of online searching in school library systems. Part I presents an overview of the program, assesses its benefits, and makes recommendations for future action on the part of the New York State Legislature. Part II contains a profile of each pilot project with information on accomplishments and results, statistics on present and potential participants, and names of member libraries and persons responsible for the pilot system. The tables in Part III give overall statistics on the pilot programs. (ESR) |
