Computer Programs Display Systems Guidelines Indexing Information Retrieval Man Machine Systems Microcomputers Online Systems Permuted Indexes Subject Index Terms NETPAD is a microcomputer-based system, implemented on a Commodore PET 2001-8, by which a human indexer can input, retrieve, and edit information in order to produce a variety of permuted index displays. The basic unit of the NETPAD system is a subnetwork (a description of a single document) containing a set of concept nodes (author, title, date, subject term(s), etc.) and a set of links (conceptual relations) between concept nodes. This manual has been prepared as a self-instructing tool for beginning or experienced indexers, NETPAD users, and researchers. It is noted that previous training in library science or indexing is not necessary to use the manual. Following introductory material, the manual covers: (1) the equipment needed to use NETPAD; (2) start-up procedures; (3) system commands; (4) inputting, editing, and sorting subnetworks; (5) displaying subnetworks in table form; (6) storing subnetworks; (7) clearing the workspace; (8) retrieving subnetworks; (9) deleting subnetworks; (10) generating permuted index entries; (11) customizing permuted index displays; (12) maintaining the inverted index file; (13) producing hard copies; (14) standardizing index terms; (15) generating facet printouts; (16) using index productivity aids; and (17) exiting from NETPAD. A summary of commands concludes the manual. (ESR) |
