Federal programs described provide funding for: (1) library services (Title I, Library Services and Construction Act/LSCA); (2) instructional materials and school library resources (Title IV-B, Elementary and Secondary Education Act/ESEA); (3) inexpensive book distribution for reading motivation (Section 231, ESEA); (4) assistance to medical libraries (Title III-J, Public Health Service Act); (5) the National Agricultural Library; (6) college library resources (Title II-A, Higher Education Act); and (7) strengthening research library resources (Title II-C, Higher Education Act). Fact sheets for each state present names of state education and library officials, school enrollment figures, data on textbook sales, and other related information. Allocation charts for various programs and a glossary are also provided. Appendices include a list of federal information centers, a description of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress (LC), 1979 statistics for the 60 largest academic libraries, a rank order listing of public libraries with a million or more volumes, excerpts from related federal legislation, descriptions of ERIC clearinghouses and services, a guide to Office of Education programs, and a list of officers and chapters of the Professional Booksellers of America (PBA).
