contents Painlessly Preparing Personalized Training Plans. Britt, Donnagene, Ed. And Others Academic Libraries Guidelines Job Analysis Job Training Library Personnel Material Development Staff Orientation Trainers Training Methods Training Objectives This supervisor's guide to writing job training plans for new employees or for staff taking on new assignments covers the benefits to be expected from written training plans, suggests formats for plans, and includes worksheets for general orientation and job training and ideas for overcoming writer's block. Developed at the University of California (UC) at Berkeley General Library, this guide is used in connection with a supervisor's workshop on "Improving Training Skills." Specific aspects that should be included in writing training plans are discussed, including a general orientation to the unit, and orientation to the department or library, the library system and the institution. Information on using the training plan effectively includes specific advice about communicating criticism and praise to the trainee. A discussion checklist suggests topics, issues, problems, and questions that might be covered in periodic meetings of the supervisor with the new employee. Ideas for contents of a new employee orientation packet are included. (LMM)
