contents A Guide to Research and Funding for Librarians. First Edition. Peete, Gary And Others College Libraries Grants Grantsmanship Guidelines Higher Education Library Research Proposal Writing Research Proposals This handbook defines library research terminology and provides guidance for academic librarians in several components of the research grant application and management processes. The first chapter addresses the research or creative project itself and the optimum methods of presenting it in order to obtain financial support. Chapter 2 deals with the problems and methods associated with managing the grant, while Chapter 3 describes the planning needed for effectively communicating the results of the grant-funded project. A list of 16 potential funding sources for librarian research is also provided, including information on research and project grants and fellowships that permit time and funding for research projects. Each source description contains the grantor's name and address; the nature, extent, and purpose of financial support; eligibility requirements; and the source for current, detailed grant information, including phone number. The final chapter presents a 129-item bibliography of publications on the research experience, mostly written by librarians for librarians. Divided into seven sections, the bibliography covers investigating the research process, finding funding sources, planning and writing the research proposal, managing the research grant, performing the research, evaluating the research results, and communicating the research results.
