It is noted that prospective student circulation aides are required to read the manual and pass a written test on policies and procedures before they are allowed to shelve materials. The manual is divided into nine sections, including: (1) general instructions; (2) a general description of duties; (3) a description of the Library of Congress (LC) classification system, with an explanation of the component parts of an LC call number and a list of basic rules of shelving using the LC system; (4) an overview of the types of collections in the learning resources center; (5) a list of specific shelving procedures; (6) a list of shelving procedures for special collections; (7) a series of final reminders for student assistants; (8) a list of procedures for training student aides; and (9) an open-book quiz on policies and procedures covered in the student aide training manual.
