Elementary Secondary Education Guidelines Learning Resources Centers Library Collections Library Facilities Library Instruction Library Personnel Library Skills Library Standards Program Effectiveness School Libraries State Standards Intended to assist local school districts in meeting the requirements of the Pennsylvania Code, Title 22, Chapter 5, this publication provides guidelines which school districts can use to develop a flexible integrated K-12 school library media program supported by local school policies and operational procedures. Following a diagram showing the hierarchy of support for school library media programs in Pennsylvania and a glossary of terms, chapters cover: (1) the philosophy and rationale for school library media programs; (2) program scope and sequence, with a chart showing goals, objectives, and relevant tasks at the elementary, junior high, and senior high levels for a series of 12 skills; (3) the development of student outcome statements related to the school library media program; (4) the integration of the school library media program into the total school curriculum, with an outline of staff, facility, budget, and collection requirements; and (5) the process of evaluating the effectiveness of school library media programs. A list of seven references is provided. Appendices contain copies of state regulations and guidelines covering goals of quality education, school library requirements, certification requirements, copyright issues, and materials selection policies.
