- Resource Notebook on Staff Development. Sitts, Maxine K., Ed. Academic Libraries Higher Education Improvement Programs Library Administration Position Papers Program Descriptions Questionnaires Research Libraries Resource Materials Self Evaluation (Groups) Staff Development Based on the comprehensive library self-study method developed by the Association of Research Libraries' (ARL) Office of Management Studies (OMS) and first used as the Management Review and Analysis Project (MRAP), this resource notebook presents surveys and diagnostic aids, OMS self-study reports, and ARL member library documents related to library staff development. It is noted that the items selected for the notebook represent examples of work done to analyze library problems, document existing conditions, describe programs, and work toward change. An introduction provides background information and a brief overview of current trends in staff development programs. The first section of documents consists of data-gathering instruments and descriptions of other approaches to collecting information. A second section presents comprehensive staff development program statements and descriptions of programs designed to fit particular needs. In the third section, documents that illustrate approaches to program change and design are included, and the final section provides three annotated resource lists on staff development. It is concluded that staff development is an important organizational priority for academic and research libraries, despite financial and time constraints. (ESR)
