contents Hats Off to Kids! Wisconsin Summer Library Program Manual, 1984. Bulletin No. 4225. Kennelly, Patti, Ed. Children Childrens Literature Educational Games Enrichment Activities Library Extension Program Development Public Libraries Publicity Reading Programs State Programs Summer Programs This guide offers suggestions for in-library, community, and school program promotion and activities, including specific ideas for the 1984 theme, "Hats Off to Children." It is intended for libraries participating in the Wisconsin Summer Library Program, which promotes summer use of the library by children, familiarizes them with public library resources, and helps them to retain their reading skills over the summer. Bulletin boards and ideas for decorating the children's room (and crocheting a rainbow lapel pin for the librarian to wear) are included, as well as sample letters, flyers, a news release, and a radio spot. Program ideas include using the "hat" theme in riddles about book characters, "The Theft of the Magic Hat" (a puppet play), "The Stonecutter" (a play), preschool program ideas, and craft activities. A resource guide lists bibliographies covering children's literature, poetry, craft and other resource books, hat books, a film list, miscellaneous resources, and profiles of performing artists. Games and giveaway materials are provided, including mazes, word searches, scrambled letter activities, board game instructions, a "Me, Myself, and I" booklet, and reproducible CLIP-ART of the program theme and logo.
