Attitude Measures Curriculum Guides Evaluation Methods Grade 8 Junior High Schools Librarians Library Instruction School Libraries Teaching Methods Use Studies This packet of materials is for use by school librarians participating in a study of eighth-grade students' attitudes and the relationship of these attitudes to use of the school library. Included is a schedule of activities and an outline of procedures to be followed in the following activities: selection of students to attend six consecutive weekly special library sessions conducted by the librarian; selection of a control group; making arrangements for speakers; reviewing materials for sessions and/or booktalks; and displaying materials for each week's topic. Instructions provided for each of the special sessions provide a list of materials needed, a description of how the session is to be conducted, and a place to record the librarian's reaction. Topics covered are: (1) sports; (2) science fiction/fantasy; (3) how-to-books/crafts/hobbies; (4) almanacs; (5) World War II; and (6) scary stories. Suggestions for explaining the library use form, which is introduced after the fifth session, and instructions for mailing in surveys, forms, and the completed procedures packet, are included. (THC)
