Other needs for which libraries were seeking external monies included technological improvements, publications, expanded services, and buildings. This collection of documents on external fund raising in ARL libraries contains: (1) a concise summary of fund raising strategies, national foundation grant trends, and development and overall benefits of increased external support; (2) a portion of the Council on Library Resources (CLR) Fellowship report on outside support for book funds (prepared at Brown University); (3) general resource materials on The Foundation Center and The Grantsmanship Center, and suggestions for applicants for the 1978 National Historical Publications and Records Commission Records Grant Program; (4) program and job descriptions from Northwestern University and Duke University; (5) examples of fund raising presentations from University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, Harvard University, Yale University, and Princeton University; and (6) two listings of selected foundations, i.e., those making grants to academic libraries in 1977, and those contributing to libraries since 1972.
