Academic Libraries Fringe Benefits Higher Education Leaves of Absence Library Administration Library Personnel Personnel Policy Position Papers Program Descriptions Research Libraries Retirement Benefits Sabbatical Leaves Based on analyses of 91 documents on fringe benefits received from member libraries of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) in 1978, a concise summary presents observations and statistics on sabbatical leaves, insurance, retirement, education and campus-related benefits, trends, and needs. It is concluded that pressures for improving fringe benefits come from changing employee needs, an increased recognition of the importance of the individual within an organization, union efforts, and the tax advantages of expanded benefits in lieu of increased salareis. The kit contains: (1) summaries of benefit programs from Syracuse University, Temple University, Southern Illinois University, University of Nebraska, McGill University, University of Georgia, Georgetown University, University of Washington, Harvard University, and Princeton University; (2) descriptions of sabbatical leave programs from Southern Illinois University, New York University, University of Missouri, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Cincinnati, and Indiana University; (3) leave programs from Northwestern University, University of Toronto, Cornell University, Princeton University, University of Kentucky, Boston University, University of British Columbia, Emory College, National Library of Canada, and University of Pittsburgh; and (4) university education programs from Louisiana State University, National Library of Canada, Emory College, University of Missouri, and Columbia University. A four-page supplement summarizes vacation and sick leave policies in ARL libraries in 1974. (THC)
