contents Indirect Cost Rates in Research Libraries. SPEC Kit 64. Academic Libraries Budgeting Federal Aid Federal Regulation Higher Education Indirect Costs Program Costs Research Libraries Resource Allocation Use Studies To update a 1977 study of indirect cost rates in Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member institutions, the Systems and Procedures Exchange Center (SPEC) contacted several member libraries and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) in 1980 for current information and documents. A number of ARL members conducted new studies and research in 1979 to produce revised data on library costs using new regulations for determining costs of federal contracts and grants. The kit comprises: (1) "Indirect Cost Calculation" (Washington University); (2) "Proposal for Conducting a Study of Reference Department Usage" (Washington University); (3) "Directions for Taking a Sampling of the Faxon List of Continuations" (Washington University); (4) "Indirect Cost Study" (University of Southern California); (5) "Cost Allocation Study" (University of Pennsylvania); (6) "Selected Support Materials from the Office of Sponsored Programs" (University of Virginia); (7) "Selected Materials from NACUBO Special Reports, March and June 1979 Issues" (NACUBO); (8) "University Libraries Use Study" (Cornell University); and (9) "Library Expense and Use Information Endowed 1975-76" (Cornell University). The concise summary that introduces the kit briefly discusses library responses to the revised cost principles and trends and issues. (THC)
