Data Processing Developed Nations Developing Nations Documentation Information Dissemination Information Scientists Information Systems International Cooperation Librarians Library Cooperation Thesauri This conference, which was attended by librarians and documentalists from 12 European countries (East and West) and, for the first time, some Third World countries, emphasized the role of electronic data processing (EDP) in information and documentation, particularly in terms of one possible means by which to overcome the barriers in international cooperation. The report summarizes the plenary discussions and presents the full text of both lectures and working group reports. Papers presented at the conference were: (1) "Computers in Information: Dataprocessing and Change of Structures in Small Size Information Bureaux" (R. Schneemann); (2) "Low Cost Documentation" (M. Klatter); (3) "The Subject Approach to Information: The Role and Use of Thesauri. An Introduction to Some Basic Concepts" (R. Supper); (4) "User Education" (O. Norgaard); (5) "User Analysis" (D. Steinert); and (6) "International Information Systems (DEVSIS) (Development Science Information System)" (R. T. de Mautort). Annexes to the report include two additional papers--"DEVSIS-Type Systems and Activities" (Catherine Shearer), and "Information Exchange in a North-South Context: Is There More to Gain through Cooperation than in Trying to Establish New Markets?" (John E. Woolston)--and reports from the working groups on Interlibrary Cooperation, Research Register and Dissemination, Future of EADI (European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes) and I&D (information and documentation), EDP and DEVSIS, Regional Associations, Preparation of Madrid EADI Meeting, Scandinavian Working Group, and 10-Years EADI Documentation Working Group, 1973-1983.
