contents Computer Based Library Orientation. Machalow, Robert College Students Computer Assisted Instruction Higher Education Library Instruction Library Materials Library Skills Microcomputers Workbooks This document presents computer-based lessons used to teach basic library skills to college students at York College of the City University of New York. The information for library orientation has been entered on a disk which must be used in conjunction with a word processing program, the Applewriter IIe, and an Apple IIe microcomputer. The lessons provide instruction in four basic areas: the card catalog, indexes, periodicals, and locating books on the shelves. Throughout the lessons, students are instructed in the basic areas and are required to load the various sections into the computer's memory. Thus, the student actively participates in the educational process. Step-by-step lessons are accompanied by sample library cards, excerpts from periodical indexes, and library-specific microfilm holding lists. (THC)
