Huber, Leonard And Others Computer Assisted Instruction Computer Graphics Computer Literacy Computer Science Education Curriculum Guides Educational Objectives Elementary Secondary Education Learning Activities Microcomputers Programing Programing Languages This handbook for teachers offers guidance on introducing computer literacy into elementary and secondary classrooms. It includes a list of computer concepts exemplified by each step in learning to write programs in BASIC Programming Language and the objectives for the elementary and secondary activities; suggestions for using computers in classrooms; and learning activities for elementary and secondary students. For elementary students, activities deal with PRINT and GOTO statements, computer arithmetic, variables and values, INPUT statements, IF-THEN statements, FOR-NEXT loops, string manipulation, random numbers, arrays, nested loops, low resolution graphics, flowcharts, and activities without the computer. Secondary activities cover PRINT statments; GOTO, CTRL C, comma, and semicolon; INPUT command, variables, ON-GOTO; FOR-NEXT; string manipulation; concepts of probability; writing a program in the form of a multiple choice quiz using several commands; READ-DATA; arrays; programming to find roots of a polynomial; LEFT, RIGHT, MID$; word scramble program (concatenation); text files; reaching objectives by using files; writing a library program using text files; text windows; writing programs using a counter; quadratic equations; graphics; and programs to explore the world of low resolution graphics.
