- Report on Library-Related Microcomputer Use. Jaffe, Lee And Others Academic Libraries Higher Education Library Automation Library Services Microcomputers Online Systems Reference Services This task force report on current and anticipated needs relating to the use of microcomputers in libraries on the University of California, Berkeley, campus is intended to serve as a fundamental document, the basis for future discussion, planning, and development. The task force divided into two groups to consider the issues of staff use of microcomputers and library support of public uses separately. Following weekly subgroup meetings from August through October, 1984, the task force reconvened to assemble this report, which is divided into two major sections: (1) staff use (including training, microcomputer applications, communications, coordination, scheduling, supplies, maintenance, and security), and (2) public use (including reference, online catalog, library instruction, online database searching, circulation, course reserves, collection development, and new services). Each section consists of discussions of issues and options followed by specific recommendations. A summary of the combined recommendations from these two sections makes up the final section. Electronic mail is referred to generically throughout the report. Appendices include various relevant documents, notably a report on microcomputer uses in subject specific and branch libraries. (THC)
