Cataloging Elementary Secondary Education Guidelines Instructional Materials Learning Resources Centers Library Materials Library Technical Processes School Libraries This handbook is designed to assist Utah schools in cataloging instructional materials. It is recommended that it be used in all local school and district media programs. This sixth edition attempts to simplify cataloging while retaining the basic elements needed for locating materials. Following a brief introduction, the handbook is divided into five sections: (1) Card Catalog, including type of cards, card arrangement, electronic card catalog, and location; (2) Cataloging Procedures, including who should catalog, call numbers, the basic catalog card, subject cards, title cards, shelf list card, and cross reference cards; (3) Cataloging Applications, including books, other printed materials, and nonprint media; (4) Collection Maintenance, including statistics and inventory, and weeding; and (5) Utah State Library Commission Services, including ordering procedures, cataloging, receiving, and a question answering service.
