Conclusions and recommendations regarding the gathering and organization of information needed for collection development are discussed. Environmental factors that significantly affect the library's collection development system are described, including the publishing industry, library profession, federal and state governments, and the university itself, and their impact is assessed with particular attention to the library's mechanisms for monitoring the environment. Collection development goals are also discussed within the context of the library and the university and recommendations are made to improve goal setting procedures. Charts, graphs, and tables supplement the written text. (MBR) |
