| contents | Collection Development Policy. Revised. Sawin, Philip, Jr., Ed. Academic Libraries Evaluation Criteria Guidelines Higher Education Information Needs Information Storage Learning Resources Centers Library Acquisition Library Collection Development Library Collections Library Material Selection Library Planning Media Selection Policy This collection development policy paper incorporates guidelines contributed by all university academic departments, as well as by members of the Library Learning Center professional staff. An alphabetical index provides access to major subject areas and subdivisions, which are assigned one of four level designators indicating the depth of coverage to be maintained for that subject. Discussions of the Library Learning Center's objectives, means of implementing the objectives and other aspects of selection, a definition of a preview policy, and a collection review precede guidelines for a wide variety of materials: serials; newspapers; microformats; films, videodiscs, and videocassettes; microcomputer software; gifts; pamphlets; textbooks; theses and dissertations; paperbacks; and reprints of monographs. Appended policy statements for the Educational Materials Center, Reference, and the Area Research Center discuss objectives, scope, types of materials, acquisitions, and evaluation. Appendices also include guidelines for vertical files, collection review, and equipment catalog files. Copies of the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Intellectual Freedom Statement, Statement of Labeling, and the Resolution of Nonremoval of Challenged Library Materials are included in the first appendix.
