contents Organizational Futures: Staffing Research Libraries in the 1990s. Minutes of the [Semiannual] Meeting of the Association of Research Libraries (105th, Washington, D.C., October 24-25, 1984). Academic Libraries Higher Education Library Administration Library Associations Library Personnel Library Planning Library Research Meetings Policy Formation Research Libraries Staff Role Program presentations on issues related to staffing considerations in research libraries and business meeting minutes are combined in this report from the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Under the program title, "Organizational Futures: Staffing Research Libraries in the 1990's," a report by the Task Force on Research Library Staffing addresses the roles and responsibilities of professional and support staff, the different staff categories and ratios that would exist in the near-term future, and the kinds of administrators and managers that would be needed in that environment. The report of the Task Force identifies an array of options through models that are designed to stimulate membership discussion. Concluding remarks summarize the points presented. Business meeting activities include reports from: the ARL Executive Director, the Committee on Collection Development, the Committee on ARL Statistics, the Office of Management Studies, and the ARL President. A report on the proposed North American Retrospective Conversion Project as well as guidelines for minimum preservation efforts in ARL libraries are also presented. Discussions of the election of vice-president/president-elect and new board members, as well as the change of officers, and dues increases for 1985 are included. Appendices provide background information for the reports; lists of meeting participants; members of the ARL board, task forces, and committees; and member libraries. (THC)
