College Libraries Community Colleges Computer Oriented Programs Library Personnel Library Planning Library Role Library Services Multicampus Districts Self Evaluation (Groups) Two Year Colleges Drawing from a study undertaken during the summer of 1984, this report assesses the current status of Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) libraries. Section 1 is devoted to instructional support services, covering roles and objectives; the present situation with respect to personnel, equipment, physical facilities and common needs; and program plans for specific community colleges. Section 2 discusses the services that the libraries provide for faculty and the ways in which the faculty helps the libraries. Section 3 highlights the activities undertaken by the libraries to teach information skills, including self-paced, individualized reading and writing instruction and library use instruction. In addition, this sections offers information on the libraries' use of computers and terminals, communication systems, information industries, governmental sources of information, and media. The needs, goals, and objectives related to information skills are also covered. Section 4 presents the results of a student survey designed to determine ways in which the libraries might better serve student needs. Section 5 focuses on internal operation, looking at technical service functions and future objectives for each campus. Finally, section 6 explores administrative organization, considering issues related to centralization and staff development, and summarizing responses to a districtwide survey. (LAL)
