- Student Information Booklet for Outdoor Studies: Geneva Sixth Grades. Mitchinson, Don F. Class Activities Conservation Education Environmental Education Experiential Learning Field Experience Programs Field Trips Grade 6 Intermediate Grades Maps Natural Resources Outdoor Education Parent Materials Program Descriptions Written for sixth grade students in the Geneva Public Schools (Geneva, New York) and for their parents, this booklet provides general and specific information to prepare them for a 3-day outdoor field experience that is part of the sixth grade curriculum in outdoor studies. The booklet begins with a definition of environmental education and a rationale for field experiences as a means of enhancing the school curriculum. A personal essay describes the Rogers Environmental Education Center (site of the 3-day field experience)--its history, philosophy, and facilities. The essay covers the ecological features of the 75 acre site, the trails and exhibits, and the facilities of the education building which include laboratories, library, exhibits, and meeting room. It provides examples of student activities at the site and mentions the preparation and follow-up activities that accompany the field experience. Additional material includes maps of the area, detailed schedules of student activities, transportation information, and a list of clothing and supplies that students will need for the trip. (JHZ).
