- Focus on Learning: An Integrated Program Model for Alberta School Libraries. Harke, Dianne Elementary Secondary Education Foreign Countries Guidelines Instructional Materials Integrated Activities Learning Resources Centers Library Administration Library Collection Development Library Equipment Library Facilities Library Planning Library Services Library Standards Models Policy Program Development School Libraries Upon the adoption of a provincial statement of policy designed to guide the development and implementation of effective school library programs, the Alberta Department of Education agreed to provide a recommended model for developing an effective, integrated school library program. The model outlined in this document is particularly suitable as a vehicle to implement the guidelines, procedures, and standards set forth in the policy statement. The model incorporates three major program components, each with three separate phases of development. Each phase represents an increased level of program scope and quality and provides a basis for: assessing the scope and quality of a school's present library program; identifying immediate needs and priorities for short-term planning and development; and establishing goals and objectives to direct long-term planning and implementation. This document includes: (1) a description of an integrated school library program; (2) the model itself, including an overview and sections on instruction, development, and management; (3) an outline for implementation of each phase; (4) appendices, including the school library resources analysis form, a status graph, and descriptions of key roles in the integrated library program; and (5) a bibliography.
