  • Exhibits in ARL Libraries. SPEC Kit 120. Wyly, Mary Academic Libraries Administrative Policy Exhibits Higher Education Library Administration Library Personnel Library Research Library Services Methods Occupational Information Questionnaires Research Libraries Surveys While there is general agreement regarding the educational and cultural advantages of exhibits, research and academic libraries often adapt the operating guidelines and procedures of exhibit planning and installation from museums and other non-library institutions. To discover procedures and policies developed specifically for research libraries and to gather information on staffing, administration, and local issues of mounting exhibits, the Systems and Procedures Exchange Center (SPEC) surveyed the total Association of Research Libraries (ARL) membership in mid-1985. Of the 117 members, 70 responded to the survey, and 46 supplied policy-related documents. This kit contains the QUICK-SPEC survey questionnaire and a list of the respondents, 20 examples of exhibit policies, job descriptions from 6 institutions, 6 exhibit proposals, 3 procedure checklists, 4 exhibit schedules, 5 loan agreements/policies, 5 sets of publicity materials, and a selective bibliography. A concise summary at the beginning of the document covers staffing, goals and purposes, themes, preparation of exhibits, local policy issues, and a summation. (THC)
